A... visual artist focusing on paper and paper pulp as her medium, Georgie Cunningham works out of her studio in the Texas Hill Country. The big skies and vast grasslands of Texas are often depicted in her work.

Her handmade paper tapestries are layered with color and texture and often incorporate native grass fiber. More recently she has taken the tapestries off the wall to build lamps, vessels for light exploring shadow and form.

Cunningham’s pulp paintings highlight the diversity of paper pulp as a medium. Her current body of work reflects a connection to nature in both a representational and nonrepresentational setting.

Georgie Cunningham came to papermaking with a background in broadcast and graphic design. She studied papermaking at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, Texas.

Her work has shown in galleries across the country. Cunningham is a member of North American Hand Papermakers and the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists.
